6 Egg Donor Essentials

The funny thing about adding hormones to your body, is sometimes you don’t realize how unwell you feel until you get back to your normal hormone levels and realize you felt like an entirely different person for around a month and half.
That is where I am at now, post injections, post donation, and post all of the ick I felt while getting back to my hormonal baseline, or whatever you would call it.
With the knowledge of my own crazy ups and downs, here is my list of things that I believe genuinely saved my sanity while going through pre-donation, donation, and post donation days.
WRAP AROUND HEATING PAD
I genuinely wore this thing near 24/7 when doing injections, absolutely 24/7 in the immediate aftermath of donation, and near 24/7 in the weeks following donation. And ESPECIALLY I wore it when experiencing the craziest period of my life post donation. I was so happy to get my period but man, that was some cramping my lord.
Preggy Pop drops
Not only were these delicious and a fun little candy, but they helped settle my stomach, made me drink more water, and were a fun little sugar kick amid all of the intense lethargy I was feeling. And speaking of water…
Liquid IV
One thing about me is that I have veins no one can ever find, and in egg donation you get poked, a lot. Drinking Liquid IV everyday sometimes more than one made me very hydrated. This both made me personally feel better amid my once again crazy lethargy AND made my veins much easier to find it seemed, saving me some pokes.
Wonder Belly Bloat tablets
I absolutely munched on these. I was constantly bloated and feeling icky and these were the only things that helped. Emily got them for me as part of a pre-donation prep basket and they were almost all gone by the end of donation recovery. They taste kind of like chapstick but they were a godsend.
Comfy Loungewear
Like I said, I felt like crap, I was bloated, nauseated, achy, and generally felt like my least beautiful self. Comfy (and cute!) clothes were all I needed and wanted. A matching set made me feel put together and a stretchy waist and soft fabric was cozy, warm, and didn’t bug me when my heating pad pressed the material to my skin.
A variety of books for every mood
I’m a big believer in leaning into your feelings when you have them so they don’t build up. My preferred way is to read a good book where I can be in my feels and not explode at the people around me. I had a book prepared for whatever mood I found myself in. Sad: my brother had just given me a copy of The Notebook. Angry/frustrated: Zodiac Academy books (those books make me angry). Soft and romantic: The Love Hypothesis. Highly recommend good books.
